Technology is becoming an increasingly important part of architecture and interior design projects. We control lighting, blinds, climate systems and different scenes from a single system, but integrating all these functions also presents a challenge: how can we incorporate more technology without adding more visual elements to the space?
The answer lies in solutions that bring together technology, functionality and design.
This is the direction ROND is taking with the native integration of KNX into its Rond 2.0 switches, making it possible to incorporate one of the most widely used automation systems in architecture without compromising the minimalist character of its switches.
What is KNX?
KNX is an international standard for home and building automation that makes it possible to connect and control different systems within a single installation.
Lighting, climate control, blinds, security, energy management and other automated functions can communicate with one another using a common standard. One of its main advantages is that it is not tied to a single brand, allowing compatible devices from different manufacturers to be combined within the same project.
This makes KNX a particularly interesting solution for residential projects, offices, hotels and other spaces where technology is considered from the earliest planning stages.
The key is that all this technology does not need to be visually apparent in the final result.
Technology integrated into architecture
From a long time, home automation has been visually associated with screens, dedicated controls and switches with a distinctly technological appearence.
But that approach is changing.
In a carefully designed interior, electrical fittings are part of the overall composition, just like materials, lighting or furniture. Their position, size and finish have a direct impact on how the space is perceived.
That is why integrating an advanced system such as KNX should not mean introducing elements that disrupt the visual continuity of the project.
The goal is precisely the opposite: to make technology present when we need it and disappear when we are not using it.
ROND 2.0 now speaks KNX
The new version of the Rond 2.0 switches can connect directly to KNX thanks to an interface integrated into the switch itself.
Hasta ahora, una instalación de este tipo podía requerir una interfaz independiente entre el pulsador y el sistema KNX. Con la nueva versión KNX Secure, ROND integra esa interfaz directamente en el mecanismo.
Until now, this type of installation could require a separate interface between the switch and the KNX system. With the new KNX Secure version, ROND integrates this interface directly into the mechanism.
This significantly simplifies installation.
According to ROND, a configuration that could previously require up to ten wires now needs only two. Reducing the number of connections and terminals also lowers the risk of installation errors and makes the installer’s work easier.
What is particularly interesting from an architectural perspective is that all of this technical development takes place without changing the product’s visual philosophy.
¿What can a KNX switch control?
The possibilities depend on how each product is configured.
Through a KNX system, it is possible to integrate functions such as:
- Switching lighting on and off, as well as dimming.
- Control of blindings and shading systems.
- Climate control.
- Scenes and automation.
- Energy management.
- Different building control systems.
KNX works as a common language that allows different devices and systems to communicate within the same installation.
This means that a single switch can form part of a much broader system without turning the wall into a control panel.
KNX and ROND in architectural projects
The integration of KNX directly into Rond 2.0 switches opens up new possibilities for residential and architectural projects looking to combine automation, functionality and carefully considered design.
At LuzÓptima, we work alongside architects, interior designers and industry professionals to select and integrate electrical switches and lighting solutions tailored to the needs of each project.
If you are developing a project with KNX and want to integrate the switches seamlessly into the architectural language of the space, we can help you explore the different options and finishes available.
